Nabeul

Former “Neapolis, Nabeul is located about 65 km southeast of the capital Tunis. Capital of the governorate of the same name, it is located south of the peninsula of Cap Bon.

The importance of Nabeul is due, first, to the fact that it is a touristic town with one of the most beautiful coasts of Tunisia, as well as archaeological sites of great importance I.e. Kerkouane (listed on World Heritage List of UNESCO and it is the only example of Punic architecture that has not been modified by later civilizations). The importance of Nabeul is above all due to the fact that it is one of the richest cities in terms of artisanal trades. We find mat makers, fire arts, the fine embroidery, scented water, and condiments … all these specialties have grown steadily over the centuries and some have turned into industries that hold great importance, even at the international level.

Such prosperity reflects the presence of human potential beyond eclectic standards that is constantly evolving while keeping its regional specificity since Nabeul is the birthplace of many traditions of its own. We speak of “Kharjet essnayiia” (the coming out of artisans) or sugar dolls that Nabeulians prepare at the New Hegira Year.
